… But the one we are sure to hear from, is Kati Vámosi. If there is intelligent singing and acting, hers is it. Nice voice, precise rhythms, correct phrasing. Also, she is not just playing, she is present. She has a light in his eyes, which is a gift of course, but there is a concentration in his gaze, without it becoming strained. You get the feeling there is a professional among amateurs – in fact, the situation is almost reversed. When she sings, you know the ensemble won’t fall apart (e.g. in the final scene). And Donna Elvira’s Donna Elvira is as ambivalent as Mozart’s and Da Ponte’s Donna Elvira.
PROFESSIONALISM AND UNCONTROLLABLE EMOTIONS
Interview with opera singer Katalin Vámosi, for whom singing technique, the professional experiences in Hungary, Germany and France, and her family are very important.
“PRAE.HU: Is it important for you to impress the audience?
I think the point, the meaning of art is to resonate. It’s not just to show that the singer has a voice, but to convey an emotion, to make an impression. It can be good, it can be bad, you can like it, you can dislike it, it doesn’t matter, but it has to have an effect. I like the fact that as soon as the singer opens herself up, that is, she doesn’t just show off her voice, the audience reacts.”
